  • Reserve Mounted Unit
The Reserve Coordinator at Harbor Area is coordinating the establishment of a Reserve Mounted Unit. To date, five reserve officers have expressed an interest. Please note that this Mounted Unit is not intended to replace or supplant the regular Mounted Unit, but to serve in an auxiliary capacity. You do not need to possess a horse or equipment to be a part of this unit, but you must have riding experience. If you are interested, please contact Officer Steve Erickson at (310) 548-7600.

    Suppression Team
The Department is rolling out a high-profile suppression team, which will be deployed in all of the Bureaus on a rotating basis, and the Chief has identified South Bureau as the initial targeted location. The team is looking for a cadre of at least 12 reserve officers to work at least two shifts (Saturdays) a deployment period. If you are interested in participating, please contact Officer Dave Love at (213) 485-4097.

    Reserve Memorabilia
The Reserve Unit has been contacted by the Los Angeles Police Historical Society (LAPHS), which is looking for artifacts, and memorabilia, which represents and commemorates the Department’s Reserve Program. LAPHS operates the LAPD Museum, located at the old Highland Park Station at 6042 York Boulevard. The building has been meticulously restored and is now open to the public. Please go to www.LAPHS.org to learn more about the Museum.

The Reserve Unit requests volunteers to assist them in sorting through the boxes and materials for items, which may be of interest to LAPHS. Please contact the Reserve Unit at (213) 485-4097 to volunteer.

    Recruiting New Reserves
There are approximately 60 candidates being processed for the next Level III Academy, as well as 18 laterals who wish to transfer to the LAPD. Please spread the word that LAPD is aggressively seeking qualified candidates, and direct any interested individuals to the Officer Pat Guessferd at Recruitment (213) 485-3544.
